Natomas Unified School District officials report nearly three dozen students remain who have not been vaccinated for whooping cough as required by state law.
As of 4:30 p.m. Sept. 26, 35 students had not turned in a waiver or paperwork verifying receipt of the Tdap vaccine.
Students not vaccinated in accordance with the new law have not been allowed on campus since a week ago Tuesday, according to the district superintendent’s office.
These absent students cost the Natomas school district more than $1,000 per day in government funding. School districts receive about $30 per day per student attends school.
School district officials have made home visits in an effort to get students vaccinated, or the necessary waiver paperwork completed, so they can return to classes. Interim superintendent Dr. Walter Hanline said he will request a waiver from the state to restore lost funding resulting from absences related to the new Tdap vaccine law.
