The Natomas Attendance Center recently opened at Inderkum High School in an effort to address the root causes of student truancy.
Students in our community found to be truant are brought into the Attendance Center to meet with a family advocate who reviews their records.
A social worker also meets with the student to determine the underlying cause of the truancy, and other experts are brought in as needed.
The young person’s family also is contacted and asked to become part of the solution. The student is then returned to school or released to their parents, with follow-up help provided as needed.
The center is a partnership of the Natomas Unified School District, the Sacramento Police Department, the Sacramento County Department of Human Assistance and EMQ Children and Family Services.
Nearly 60 students were seen at the Attendance Center in its first three weeks of operation.
