Natomas Thanks Its Men & Women In Blue

This police officer appreciation poster traveled to a number of community group meetings, events, and businesses to be signed, and was presented (with cookies donated by Raley’s) to all 74 police officers who work out of the William J. Kinney Police Facility.

There has been some “good news” in recent weeks when it comes to crime in the Natomas area including:
  • apprehension of two cat burglars,
  • the arrest of someone involved in the infamous gunpoint armed robberies of Hollywood Video and three pizza parlors, and
  • an arrest of a suspect in a woman’s murder at Homecoming Apartments.
Sac PD also recently announced assignment of four Problem Oriented Policing (“POP”) officers to Natomas — two in the north area and two in the south area.

To show Natomas-area beat cops how much the community appreciates them, a “Natomas Cops Appreciation Poster” was started and signed over a 10-day period.

Police staffing in our part of the city has improved, increased police presence has been recognized, and communications have never been more timely.

Natomas-area leaders concede there is room for further improvements, and plan to continue to represent their neighbors in ongoing efforts to identify police department the gaps and to propose constructive ideas for filling them.

It’s been said the poster pictured above will remain on display in the roll call room indefinitely as a reminder the Natomas neighborhood does not take its police officers for granted.

  1. It is GREAT to see this: “Sac PD also recently announced assignment of four Problem Oriented Policing (“POP”) officers to Natomas — two in the north area and two in the south area.”

I wonder if these positions will stick in light of the inevitable forthcoming budget cuts..? Will be interesting to see what happens.

I also applaud the police for apprehending the armed robbers who have been terrorizing the community. Kudos.

I think the community needs to define acceptable minimum police levels. After all, we are paying for police through homeowners’ tax supplements. We also need our community sub station we were promised.

Anyway, glad to see we’re making some progress.
