The Sac Bee is reporting a series of smash and grab crimes have been committed at Garden Highway eateries.
To those of us living in Natomas, this is not new news. Smash and grab car burglaries have been a constant in recent years.

In January my husband took my car from our garage to KFC on Del Paso to pick up dinner and forgot that my purse was on the front seat. He was parked right out front on a busy Saturday night and two men in a gold car managed to smash the passenger window and steal my purse in just minutes. We called and cancelled our credit/debit cards right away but a month later I found out my credit cards were still used at the Shell truck stop on El Centro and West El Camino. The good news in my story is that they just took my money/cards and my GPS system (that was also in my purse) but they ditched the purse in one of the outside trash cans at Hampton Inn. My purse was found in the morning and still had my checkbook, keys, personal items, etc.
Also, my son goes to Merryhill pre-school on Danbrook and several of the parents dropping off kids had their windows smashed in just the few minutes it takes to go inside and come right back out. As far as I know, this hasn’t happened as much lately because everyone’s being very careful and watching out for unknown people/cars.
The best thing we can all do is be very aware of our surroundings and watch out for each other. And don’t keep your valuables in sight even if it’s just for a minute.
Haven’t had a smash and grab but a little over a year ago in Natomas Park, a guy broke into my car and slept in it for the night. He relieved himself on my driver seat and stole all the change out of the car. It was disgusting and the smell never went away even with detailing.
