Below is a message that went out to Inderkum staff members and a Connect Ed message will soon go out to all parents.
Background:
On Friday, at approximately 4:30 p.m. a call was made to Inderkum High School that went into a front office Secretary’s voice mail. The Secretary was already gone for the weekend and received the message this morning.
The message indicated that at some point during lunch there would be a shooting on the Inderkum campus this week. We are working with the Sacramento Police Department on this.
Message to Inderkum staff:
We would appreciate your assistance in keeping your eyes and ears open during passing periods and lunch this week. We have received a voice mail threat stating that an incident will occur at IHS this week during lunch. The threat is currently being investigated by the school district and the police department. We will have additional school resource officers on campus at lunch this week as well as increased security. Please notify an administrator if you notice anything of concern. We appreciate your increased vigilance during this week. Thank you.

I have heard some positive comments of Inderkum, but have always known the place is a problem. It has a poor academic record and violence and threats are probably common, parents dread the fact that our local HS is more known for producing rap vedeos for Youtube and its football team than producing college bound students. Does anybody know the percentage of kids going to college??Hopefully the K-6 years will be safe and prosperous for children in Natomas, that may soon change too.
The City of Sacramento created a perfect recipe for low performing schools and crimes by its poor planning policies. What do you expect when approve a whole bunch of low income complexes, high density homes, and apartments in what seems like in EVERY corner of Natomas? You attract people who would otherwise not be able to afford to live here. Sure, they need a place to live; however, is there a need to put that MANY? And, if you need put in that money, do you really need to cluster huge low income complexes all together like this? North Natomas residents probably pay the highest tax base. Where is all our money going to?
You will never here about frequent crime problems and poor performing schools in areas like Folsom and Roseville. Why? These Cities have competent people working for their City, and not a bunch of incompetent City Planners/City Council/Planning Commission/Fargo’s Administration. Residents here should be angry as I am. The moratorium may be a blessing in disguise because it’ll temporarily stop the City from issuing more building permits. However, this doesn’t solve the problem. What we need is to attend the City’s meetings and tell them that we don’t want their poor “vision” of Natomas. Stop using North Natomas to house all the City’s low income housing qouta. Our area has one of the HIGHEST level of low income house in the Sacramento region. You may thank the City of Sacramento for that.
I HAVE A CHILD THAT ATTENDS INDERKUM HIGH AND IN THE 4 YEARS THAT MY CHIILD HAS ATTENTED THAT SCHOOL IT HAS BEEN A VERY GOOD SCHOOL. JUST BECAUSE THERE IS LOW INCOMING HOUSING DOESN’T MAKE THE KIDS DUMB, IT MAKES YOU DUMB FOR SAYING SUCH A STUPID COMMENT. AS FAR AS AS VIOLENCE AND THREATS THAT IS AT EVERY SCHOOL NOT JUST IHS. DONT LET FOLSOM, ROCKLIN FOOL YOU JUST BECAUSE OF THE NAME, THERE IS ALOT OF CRIME IN THOSE AREAS TOO. JUST BECAUSE THERE IS LOW INCOME HOUSING IN NATOMAS DOES NOT MAKE IT WORST. MAYBE YOU SHOULD DO THE RESEARCH BEFORE YOU SPEAK. THERE ARE ALOT OF SMART KIDS AND ATHLETES THAT GO ON TO COLLEGE FROM THSES NATOMAS HIGH SCHOOLS.
THE BUZZ is pretty sure Natomas high schools are not the only place in the Sacramento region, or the nation for that matter, where violent acts have been threatened.
The assumption that apartments and the children who live there are the reason why there is crime in Natomas is simply offensive.
THE BUZZ grew up living in apartments with a single parent. The first house we really lived in is our home in Natomas.
Pretty sure we turned out OK.
