THE BUZZ hears funds are still in place for Valley Oak Park on Mabry near the Hamptons development, but construction was put on hold after the master plan was approved.
According to Dennis Day, city landscape architect who prepared the park’s plan, budget woes mean the city would not have the man power to maintain Valley Oak Park if it were built. The city’s Parks Department management reportedly put many new park projects on hold, including Valley Oak Park.
Translation: It will be at least two years before Valley Oak and several other newly master planned parks in North Natomas are built.
Construction of both Golden Poppy Park and Magnolia Park, across East Commerce Drive from Valley Oak Park, and within the same neighborhood, will move forward as planned. Work at Golden Poppy is currently underway and work on Magnolia is set to start in a month.
