As part of Earth Week, the City of Sacramento and Councilmember Ray Tretheway are challenging two water-metered Natomas neighborhoods* to an earth-friendly competition: Sacramento’s first-ever “Super Water Save-Off.”
Eligible residents who pledge to reduce water use by at least 10 percent each day, or as few as 28 gallons, will save water and money at local businesses.
Here’s how it works: The pilot program will measure water consumption for two water meter routes in Natomas between May 1 and August 31. Residents will sign and submit a pledge to reduce water usage in exchange for discounts from Quick-Quack Car Wash, Maestro Coffee, The Spa at Natomas, Home Depot, Dinner My Way, Curves, Mountain Mike’s Pizza, and John’s Cleaners.
Participants of the winning meter route will be recognized during Celebrate Natomas Festivities on September 12 and receive free car washes donated by Quick-Quack Car Wash.
Council Member Tretheway will officially issue the challenge during a special community celebration at 6 p.m. on April 24, at North Natomas Community Park. Radio Disney’s “TEAM GREEN” will be on hand to entertain the crowd with its high-energy “Rockin’ Road
Show.” Area residents are encouraged to attend.
Eligible residents will receive special letters of invitation this week from the City, along with tips to reduce water usage in and around the home. As an example, adjusting sprinklers to reduce overspray and runoff will save 20 gallons of water per irrigation cycle. Running the
dishwasher only when full saves two gallons, while shortening shower time by two minutes results in a savings of five gallons.
