NUSD To Revisit Campus Police Issue TONIGHT!

The Natomas Unified School District board of trustees is scheduled to revisit the topic of campus police at its meeting tonight.

The district’s decision to discontinue its contract with Sac PD, as a cost-saving measure a few month ago, met with criticism from several community leaders. A gang-related fight during the summer school session at Inderkum H.S. brought more attention to the topic.

Despite requesting bids from private security companies and talks with the Twin Rivers Unified School District’s police department, the Natomas district has yet to place any form of security at the high schools where classes resumed Monday.

The topic is slated to be discussed by Natomas board members tonight at about 8 p.m. under “additional budget adjustments.”

Security Services … from $100,000 to $200,000

The administration is seeking guidance on whether to continue to pursue negotiations with 24 hour Peace Officers (Sacramento Police Department or Twin Rivers) or to pursue an MOU with a private security which offers Level 1 Peace Officers (not 24 hours – only Peace Officers when on duty which we define).

The board meets at the District Office, 1901 Arena Blvd. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.

Comments

  1. Did I hear right at the meeting that this private security company that the district was looking at was from outside of Sacramento? Looks like another nepotistic move on the part of the superintendent. What the heck is going on? Good gosh.

  2. So when the Inderkum HS students and NMS student take their fight to Kokomo Park after school what can we expect from the school district? Will they send teachers or school administrators to intervene? Type in Natomas Fade on youtube. You will see why we need the SROs!
