An estimated 200 Natomas High School students and staff participated this morning in a walk-to-school event to promote physical fitness and launch a free two-week breakfast program meant to encourage better nutrition.

Students met at the South Natomas Community Center at 6:30 a.m. for a music/information event, followed by a 7 a.m. walk to the school a few blocks away. Participants were accompanied by the Natomas High Drum Corps and Band.

The “Nighthawk Pride Walk and Power Breakfast Day” launches Homecoming Week at the school, celebrates Walk to School Month activities and promotes healthy eating.
The event was organized by the Natomas Unified School District’s Health and Wellness Committee, along with Natomas High staff, Food Services Department and Safe Routes to School Coordinator Dario Gonzalez.
