The purpose of the center is to provide truancy prevention and intervention services to at-risk students. According to Sac PD, school truancy is one of several patterns of behavior known to increase the likelihood of youth delinquency, and is proven to have an adverse effect on student learning.
Students who are found to be truant are brought into the attendance center to meet with a family advocate who reviews their records and determine the underlying cause of the truancy. The student’s family may also be contacted and asked to become part of the solution.
Other experts are brought in to assist, as needed. A goal of the attendance centers is to ensure students complete their education and avoid delinquent behavior.
The Natomas center is located at 2500 New Market Drive, Room A109. A second center also opens today in the Sacramento Unified School District.
