Kaplan added that she hoped to continue working with Teri Burns, the second incumbent running for a board seat. With 34 out of 49 precincts reporting, Burns was edging ahead of newcomer Ryan Herche with 20.2 percent of the vote to his 18.65 percent.
“We are staying real steady and staying confident – I think we’re set,” said Burns. “We have a good board and I am excited about moving forward.”
Herche said he was looking forward to seeing the final tally in what had been a close race for the second school board seat during earlier vote returns.
“It’s been an absolute wonderful experience,” he said. “I am just honored to have been a part of this campaign.”
The three other candidates for school board trailed with Patricia Adams holding 12.25 percent of the vote, C.E. “Celeste” White with 10.36 percent, and H.K. Allen with 10.33 percent.
