Demolition of two unfinished restaurant buildings located on the corner of Truxel Road and Gateway Park Boulevard is scheduled to start tomorrow morning in Natomas.
The structures once slated to become a TGI Friday’s and Sonic Drive-In are expected to be razed by the end of the day. Clean up of the abandoned construction site, which is now bank owned, will likely take two days to complete, according to Michelle Kille, director of public policy in Councilwoman Angelique Ashby’s office.
The site was being developed by Kobra Properties until work stalled in 2008 when the Roseville-based firm filed for bankruptcy. Cleanup of the neighborhood eyesore has been a priority for Ashby since taking office in November.
“I am thrilled to see the structures on Truxel coming down,” Ashby said. “Those buildings have no place in our beautiful community. We have a bright future in Natomas and this is a step in the right direction.”
Investors are reportedly interested in developing the site once the building moratorium is lifted.
This is absolutely awesome! Thank you Angelique Ashby!!! Trixie
Just saw this story on KCRA. Instantly, I knew they found it from your blog after watching the report. Sure enough, here it is.
I wouldn’t call Natomas a “beautiful community”. Leave it up or take it down…what does it matter…it is still an empty field.
I’m glad that it is coming down but sad because I really wish there was a Sonic there!!
Those abandoned buildings are the least of Natomas’ problems.
I hope that Ashby can now focus on more important things like how to bring jobs to this depressed city -fixing the corrupt Redevelopment Department – or better yet, working like a busy little beaver fighting against a $600,000,000.00 to $1,000,000,000.00 tax payer subsidized/funded/loan guaranteed unneeded sports arena.
It’s a shame that its far too much to ask of someone put in by public employee unions to fight for us overburdened taxpayers.
How about going after all of the illegal fruit vendors and illegal car lots, or working on the next street over from me that has HUNDREDS of chickens (Mostly Roosters) roaming freely, which makes my neighborhood look like any street in Tijuana.
Priorities people!
