On August 2 neighborhoods throughout Sacramento will join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “28th Annual National Night Out” crime/drug prevention event.
National Night Out is designed to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs;
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
- Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. residents throughout the nation are asked to spend the evening outside with neighbors. Natomas-area residents can be part of this event by hosting a block party, a BBQ potluck, an ice cream social, a night walk, some youth activities or an anti-crime rally.
Last year’s National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 37 million people participated in National Night Out 2010.
