It’s small, it’s subtle, but it’s there.
A new sign in the building formerly occupied by a Borders book store announces plans for Halloween City to open one of its temporary retail locations in the Park Place II shopping center this fall fall. A second, smaller sign indicates the store is now hiring, too.
Halloween City, formerly Halloween USA, opened its first two temporary stores in 1981 in Michigan. It now operates more than 400 specialty stores in 24 states. The chain operates like a store-in-a-box with all fixtures, computer systems, supplies, and a good portion of merchandise delivered to store sites in one to two trailers – just add employees.
Halloween City is a part of Party City Retail Group, a division of Amscan Holdings, which consists of Party City, Factory Card & Party Outlet, Party America, The Paper Factory, and Partycity.com. In 2011, it is estimated Halloween City will employ over 12,000 temporary employees.
