The Natomas Charter School will co-host and perform at the monthly Stand Up for Education meeting Monday in Oak Park.

Dr. Steve Perry, CNN education contributor, author and speaker, is scheduled to talk. The charter school’s Blackrock Dance Co. will also perform.

Stand Up for Education is set to meet 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the Guild Theater, 2828 35th St., in Sacramento.

The Oprah Winfrey Show launched Stand Up – an education nonprofit striving to ensure every child has the chance to attend an excellent public school – in 2006. In 2009, Mayor Kevin Johnson brought Stand Up to Sacramento in an effort to reform the city’s failing public schools.

Discussion at Monday’s meeting is expected to focus on effective policy and turning policy into practice.

Perry believes success in life is determined by where you end, not where you start. The talk will be followed by a book signing of Perry’s recently released tome “Push Has Come To Shove.”
