Sacramento North Soccer Girls U10 Kick Kats won District 6’s prestigious “District Cup” earlier this month.
The Kick Kats qualified for the District Cup by playing undefeated in regular and seeding tournament play by scoring 55 goals in 14 games and giving up only five goals.
The Kick Kats finished No. 1 in the River City Youth Soccer League and the No. 1 seed going into District Cup play. (More than 250 Girls U10 teams play in 13 leagues within District 6.)
The District Cup qualifying round usually consists of three to four games played over two days. This year the Girls tournament was held in Elk Grove at the Bartholomew Sports Park Dec. 3-4. The Kick Kats won all three of their games against the River Park River Rats (2-1), West Sacramento Mini Alianza (3-1) and Elk Grove Strikers (4-0) to qualify for the District Cup championship game.
The Kick Kats defeated the West Sacramento Arsenal II (1-0) in the Girls 10 championship game to claim Sacramento North Soccer club’s first “District Cup” since forming more than nine years ago. The two teams had nearly identical records and stats going into the game and played in front of more than 250 cheering fans.
Head Coach Scott Filiau, Coach Jason Butler, Coach Steve Jimenez and Coach Mark Gutdula II are very proud of the play from their girls, since their first practice that started in the beginning of July, playing nearly 30 games.
