Natomas Charter School’s newest stage production “Open Sky” sends a message of hope in a post-9/11 era.
The annual winter dance celebration’s title refers to a clean canvass – or new beginnings after tragedy. The performance showcases the talents of the Blackrock Dance Company in a series of dance pieces and a tribute to 9/11.
“Open Sky” – dedicated to remembering a tragic date in American history – is a collaboration between dancers, actors, and writer. It combines spoken word and projected animations by seniors Ranbir Gill and Khalil Javed with an 30-minute dance choreographed by modern dance teacher Jill Stripling.
The show also features choreography by ballet teacher Anne David and jazz and tap teachers Ron Cisneros and Devin Lepage.
“Open Sky” runs 7 p.m. Feb. 3 and 4 at the Benvenuti Performing Arts Center, 4600 Blackrock Road. Pre-sale general admission tickets cost $12; $10 for students and seniors. At the door general admission will be $17; $15 for students and seniors.
