Sacramento work crews were seen this week doing road work meant to improve bicycle transportation in Natomas.
On San Juan Road workers cut curbs and the median, connected pathways north to south and installed security lights near homes. A new pedestrian hybrid beacon – which is designed to stop vehicles at crosswalks and give pedestrians a controlled crossing through a series of steady and flashing yellow and red lights – was also installed.
The changes are expected to help connect cyclists and pedestrians via a pathway over the Interstate 80 bike and pedestrian bridge. The bridge was completed and open for public use about a year ago.
“It is a goal of the NNTMA to partner with the City of Sacramento to further bicycle and pedestrian connectivity and make North Natomas a place where people would rather ride their bike and walk, than drive in their car,” said Becky Heieck, North Natomas Transportation Management Association executive director.
