It’s Paws vs. Claws tonight as Natomas High School hosts a varsity
double-header between the Nighthawks and neighborhood rival the Inderkum High School Tigers.
The girls game begins at 5:30 p.m. and has an interesting storyline brewing. Despite canceling the junior varsity schedule this season and combining
the JV and varsity teams, Natomas is a respectable 2-2 in Tri-County Conference
games. Led by sophomore Halle Hamre (15.4 points a game) and senior Sierra Maun (7.4 rebounds), the Nighthawks (3-13, 2-2) are in a three-way tie for second place in the TCC.
On the other hand, two-time defending TCC champions Inderkum is reeling from a two-game losing streak and are now tied with Natomas and Yuba City High School for second place.
The Lady Tigers lost both games by a combined four points and played without TCC leading scorer Sakara Brewer (15.0) and Kyliyah Daniel (7.5 points and 7.9 rebounds) on Tuesday, Jan. 22 in a 39-37 loss to Pioneer High School. Head coach Phillip Hampton expects both players back tonight.
On the boys side, Inderkum looks to stay unbeaten in TCC action and Natomas might be the best two-win team in the section as the pair square off at 7 p.m.
The Tigers (14-7, 5-0) have their sets on a possible deep run in section playoffs and are just one win away from securing automatic qualification behind leading scorer Terrence White and sharp-shooters LD Dhaliwal and Nef Torres.
Natomas (2-16, 1-3) looks like a completely different team the past two weeks. With the addition of Phillip Hampton and Cameron Graham, the forwards have helped solidify a young nucleus of players like Jalen Manning, Jamison Lyons and Jamey Morgan.
Hampton has scored 47 points in the last two games.
On court action tonight starts with the boys junior varsity teams playing at 4 p.m.
