“Hi Buzz, do you have any info on the new baseball fields in North Natomas? When will they be completed and what will they look like?”
The city broke ground on the new North Natomas Regional Park ball field in June 2012.
The first phase calls for three diamonds to be constructed which were originally scheduled to be finished in time for the 2013 spring season. But work on the project has hit a couple of snags related to weather and active nesting by an endangered bird species on the site.
“The new fields at the regional park are projected to be ready in mid-June,” said Michelle Kille, director of public policy for District 1. “The date is a moving target as we battle weather and site saturation as state laws set regulations on when a contractor can work on a site during storm seasons.”
When finished the new complex will include:
- One youth softball field
- One Little League field
- One senior baseball field
- Group picnic area with shade structure and group grill
- 164-stall parking lot with automataic locking gates
- Adventure area playground
- Water mister area
- Low water and maintenance landscaping and trees
- Walkways
- Site furniture (benches, picnic tables, bleachers, trash receptacles, bike rack)
“We had hoped for an opening-day celebration but it will likely be closing day,” Vice Mayor Angelique Ashby said. “In the balance of things, we are excited to see it done and kids out enjoying some top-notch facilities.”
