A 13-year-old boy was taken into custody Wednesday after bringing an unloaded gun to the Natomas Middle School campus.

At about 1:48 p.m. Feb. 7, Sacramento Police officers responded to the school, located at 3200 North Park Drive, when school employees discovered a student in possession of an unloaded handgun on campus.

School workers reported seeing two students passing an object back and forth and acting if they were hiding something. The students were contacted and their backpacks immediately searched.

A gun was taken from the 13-year-old student and given to responding officers.

Police officers investigated and said they believe the gun was never loaded while in the possession of the juvenile. It is believed the gun belonged to the juvenile’s parent.

The student was taken to juvenile hall and booked for bringing the firearm to school.
