Six members of the Inderkum High School football team helped lead club team TMP Elite to win the Passing Down Elite 7-on-7 CenCal tournament at Bartholomew Park in Elk Grove earlier this month.

Passing tournaments like that at Passing Down on April 14 have football teams made up of only seven players – no linemen – who line up on each side of the ball. Players do not wear pads or helmets.

Inderkum quarterback CJ Spencer, who received a scholarship offer from Army on last week, led the team to a 6-0 record. TMP Elite advances to the Best of the West Championship in Fullerton this Sunday, April 28.

Spencer was named to the tournament all-offensive team. The tournament’s website credited Spencer with impressive decision making as a quarterback and accuracy.

Also on the team with Spencer were Inderkum running back Marcus Gilbert, defensive back Jordan Thomas, linebacker NJ Falo, receiver Khalil Hudson and receiver/defensive back Larry Hardy.

Gilbert, Hudson, Spencer and Thomas are juniors this year and Falo and Hardy are sophomores. All players are expected to be vital for Inderkum as the Tigers seek a winning season in the fall.

“The Inderkum kids look like they have gone from rising stars to elite stars,” Inderkum head JV football coach and TMP Elite coach Terrance Leonard said. “They were performers and everyone played really well and really hard and we bonded as a team.”

The tournament consisted of 11 teams, four of which advanced to the championships. TMP Elite was seeded No. 3 and finished with a 6-0 record on Sunday.
