LOS ANGELES – Natomas’ own hit web series Dark Pool received a top award at LAweb Fest 2013.
The series was named an Advanced Official Selection of The Marseille Web Festival and will screen in The South of France in October – an honor the series’ creators never expected.
“There were 400 submissions to LAweb Fest this year,” said Rick Gott, series creator, who lives and teaches in Natomas. “Out of those, 260 titles were chosen as Official Selections. And out of those only 19 web series were named as Advanced Official Selections at Marsielle. We were stunned to be one of those shows.”
The Dark Pool team is in Los Angeles this weekend attending Hollyweb Fest for which Dark Pool: Season 2 was named an Official Selection. The series is competing against and screening alongside web shows from all over the world.
“We never expect to win anything,” said Gott. “We feel very lucky to be in the game at all.”
Gott said the focus of Dark Pool remains the mentor program which allows young people to train on a professional film set.
“If people like our show, that’s all the better,” he said.
Plans for Dark Pool’s third season include cast addition actor and comedia Jack Gallagher and B Street Theatre actress and director Elisabeth Nunziato.
Currently, Dark Pool is running a fundraising campaign on Indiegogo to raise funds to pay for production of season three over the summer. Indiegogo is a crowd-funding site where people can money for projects. The campaign ends at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 7.
