A Natomas drama teacher turned high school principal is ready for a new role.
Principal John Eick will leave his post at Natomas High School at the end of the 2012-13 year to help implement new common core standards in the Natomas Unified School District.
“We’re pretty excited about him doing this role,” Superintendent Chris Evans said. “His experience as a leader is a great fit, I think.”
Evans said that Eick, who has held the principal post at Natomas High since 2008, had asked for a new challenge.
According to Evans, Eick will be a principal on special assignment at Natomas Middle School, but will use his technology expertise to implement common core districtwide.
“I’m a little disappointed and shocked,” said Kim Smith, Natomas High PTSA historian and Natomas Schools Foundation board member. “He makes the school.”
Prior to becoming Natomas High’s principal, Eick led the school’s award-winning drama program.
Evans said the school district plans to post the Natomas High principal position promptly.
“Whoever replaces him,” Smith said. “They have big shoes to fill.”
What???? I’m proud, saddened, and shocked all at the same time!! Mr. Eick was so very influential to me. His kindness, warmth, wisdom, and good hearted nature is unmatched. The most valuable lesson he taught was to live life and enhance it with smile, music, dance and love. I will forever love and appreciate Mr. Eick!

Aka Cheese!
He did a great job with this school. Implementing the CCSS is going to be important work too. I hope he does equally well in his new position.
After Mr. Eick left the drama department, it was never the same. He left a huge legacy. And now it will be the same, the new principal has a big position to fill. Proud to be a Nighthawk!
WOW! Very saddened by this news. He was the principal for my older son and now for my youngest who’s last year will be 2013-2014. He will be greatly missed. I wish this wasn’t happening until my youngest was gone. Mr. Eick made NHS what it is today! I hope the incoming principal can handle it with the same patience and character as Mr. Eick! I hate to see the school go downhill.
So sad…the school needs to add to the positive leaders not have them leave! Alot of students and staff will truly miss him.
Noooo! The Principal of all Principals!! :(
