John Eick’s first day on the job helping the Natomas Unified School District implement common core at all Natomas schools promises to be bittersweet.
“I want to thank everyone for giving me the greatest honor to be the proud principal of Natomas High School,” said Eick, who has worked at the school a total of 14 years.
Eick leaves his post as Natomas High principal to take on the new, three-year assignment effective July 1. He taught drama at the school before he becoming principal.
“I love Natomas High school, and everything it stands for, but I want to be a part of the change that the district is planning,” said Eick about leaving Natomas High after so many years. “I want to do what I do here, but on a bigger scale.”
Eick said he wants to assure Natomas High students, parents, and staff that he sees a bright future ahead for the school.
Although Eick will be leaving Natomas High, he will continue to work with administrators, teachers, parents, and students to make sure the school’s curriculum will continue to advance. He said he plans to create programs that will assist staff improve lesson plans by implementing common core in the classroom.
“I will never stop being proud of who we are as a school,” said Eick. “Others create a school that develops their minds, we create a school and a community that [cares about] how we feel each and everyday.”
