Link crew is a freshman transition program which helps new high school students to meet upperclassmen and make new connections.

“Link crew is like a big family, the upperclassmen act as big brothers or sisters which empowers the freshmen to come out of their comfort zone,” said Jenna Boller, activities director at Natomas High School.

The link crew program held its annual kick off at freshmen orientation before classes started in August. All of the 50 upperclassmen who attended the event trained for five hours each day for two days beforehand.

The program started with a freshmen rally and then broke into smaller groups. One hundred twenty-five freshmen were paired up with two upperclassmen who became their mentors for the 2013-14 school year.

“I loved talking to the freshmen and getting a chance to bond with them throughout the day,” senior Tejaswi Adhikari said. “I can’t wait to see what else we do.”

The next planned link crew activity is “Tag it” where upperclassmen meet up and spend time with their assigned freshmen during the homecoming football game this Friday, Sept. 27.
