The Inderkum Tigers continued their winning ways as they defeated the Lincoln Zebras in the opening round of the CIF-Sac Joaquin playoffs.
The Zebras were inches away from an opening drive touchdown, when the Tiger defense caused a crucial fumble.
The Tigers recovered the fumble and never looked back en route to a 49-19 victory.
The second half began with a bang, as senior running back Tyler Dean rushed for a 48-yard touchdown to put the Tigers up 28-13.
The Inderkum defense held serve, only allowing the Lincoln offense to score six second-half points.
Coach Terry Stark spoke to the crucial fumble recovery, and how it impacted the game.
“It was huge,” he said. “Great play by Tyler Dean (on the fumble recovery) because it probably would have been a different game had they put it in.”
Heading into next week’s second-round playoff, Coach Stark spoke on whether the team would change up their plays based on their opponent.
“It depends on what they do on defense,” said Stark. “We can throw the ball, we can throw it from a tight set, and we can run it out of those formations.”
“It’s basically based off what they’re (defense) is doing.”
Inderkum will host next Friday’s playoff game when they face off against the 6th seeded Vaden Vikings.
Kick off time is set for 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
