Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep High School recently celebrated their 3rd annual Multicultural Day in honor of the different cultures represented by students on campus.

The event was hosted by NP3’s Multicultural Club which aims to raise awareness of and commemorate the diversity of the school.

“This day eliminates the room for discrimination and instead allows compassion and understanding toward the different identities at our school,” club president Gurjot Gill.

The lunchtime festivities featured performances from the Raise the Bar Club as well as a dance routine from NP3’s Bhangra Team. Food such as lumpia, samosas and cornbread were also sold.

Students were encouraged to dress up in clothing representing their culture or ethnic heritage. More than 100 students participated and later participated in a fashion show featuring students and staff from African American, Chinese, Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Mexican and Jewish backgrounds.

Natomas is among the top ten most diverse communities in the United States. Multicultural Day at NP3 gives students a chance to better understand the backgrounds of those people they see on a daily basis.

“It’s beautiful to see how our students are so accepting of each other,” said Principal Tom Rutten. “It’s not only the students who learn lessons from one another through these interactions, but it has also taught me to embrace where we all come from.”
