Sacramento Police today arrested an Inderkum High School student for bringing a firearm onto the Natomas campus.
The student was taken into custody by police at 11:10 a.m. today Feb. 23 after classmates saw him with an unloaded firearm, according to an automated phone message from Principal Heather Garcia to parents and guardians of Inderkum students.
Classmates reported seeing the firearm to campus officials and the student was taken into custody without incident. Inderkum High School is located at 2500 New Market Drive, between Del Paso Road and Natomas Boulevard.
The student was a freshman, according to Natomas Unified School District spokesman Jim Sanders.
“Even though the firearm was not displayed in a threatening manner, it is illegal to bring even an unloaded gun to school,” said Garcia. “Doing so is grounds for expulsion under state law.”
The Natomas Unified School District “will take appropriate disciplinary action,” the phone message said.
