Area youth are expected to ceremoniously work hand-in-hand with others from around the world as they beautify North Natomas Regional Park on Saturday.

Individuals and groups, ages 5 to 25, are invited to help weed, prune and clean up the park. The event takes place 9 a.m. to noon as part of Global Youth Service Day.

Organizers predict thousands of Natomas youth will participate this year.

Breakfast, snacks and drinks will be on hand. Organizers advise participants to wear closed-toe shoes and sunscreen. Participating groups will receive mini-grants for their organizations.

Established in 1988, Global Youth Service Day celebrates and mobilizes millions of young people who improve their communities through service. Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world and the only one dedicated to the contributions by children and youth.

The Natomas area event is sponsored in part by Mayor Pro Tem Angelique Ashby’s office, PLAY (Parks Leadership Academy for Youth), Sacramento City Council District One’s Youth Advisory Council, State Farm and Youth Service America.

North Natomas Regional Park is located at 4989 Natomas Boulevard.
