About 200 Sacramento-area special needs students from three different school districts participated in a field day held May 1 at Natomas High School.
Middle school and high school students from 10 schools in the Natomas, Twin Rivers and Washington districts competed in the half-day event which kicked off with an opening parade.
Participants were paired with Natomas High students. Sacramento State athletic trainers also volunteered at the event.
The field day included a dozen events including the 25-meter, 50-meter and 100-meter walk and/or run dashes and 4 x 100-meter relay. Students also competed in wheelchair relays and slalom races, as well as throwing, bowling and long jump events. Participants were all awarded ribbons and medals.
Event organizers hope the invitational will become an annual event.
