A man was arrested this morning in connection with the shooting death of a 26-year-old man last week in Natomas.
Barstow Police today took into custody Dezmon McClary, 22, on suspicion of killing Marcus Gonzalez.
Sacramento police were called to the Natomas Park Apartment complex on the 1800 block of Club Center Drive at about 8:22 a.m. on Oct. 9 on reports of a shooting. Officers found Gonzalez with a gunshot wound to his torso and he was declared deceased on the scene.
On Wednesday, Oct. 14 at about 11 p.m., detectives form the Barstow Police Department received a call from the Sacramento Police Department regarding Gonzalez’s murder.
A suspect in the case had been identified as McClary, who was believed to be in Barstow visiting a female acquaintance. Based on that information, Barstow detectives determined McClary was possibly in the vicinity of the 400 block of South Second Avenue in Barstow.
Barstow detectives conducted surveillance in that area in an effort to locate McClary.
At about 9:13 a.m. today, Oct. 15, the surveillance team observed a subject matching McClary’s description.
Detectives along with patrol officers made contact with that subject and confirmed the subject was McClary and took him into custody without incident a few minutes later.
McClary was transported to the Barstow Police Department where he was being detained until Sacramento detectives arrived to take him into custody.
The Oct. 9 shooting was the third gun-related incident – and second fatality – in the Natomas area within a two-week period.
Two days later Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson called for a meeting with area law enforcement to address a citywide increase in violent crimes.
