One man is dead after a shooting this morning in Natomas.

Today’s shooting is the third gun-related incident – and second fatality – in the Natomas area within a two-week period.

Police said today’s incident is not believed to be random and have made no arrests.

“(Investigators) don’t have any information as to where the suspect is,” police spokesperson Sgt. Bryce Heinlein said. “It’s very preliminary in the investigation.”

Police were called to the Natomas Park Apartment complex on the 1800 block of Club Center Drive at about 8:22 a.m. today, Oct. 9 on reports of a shooting.

“Officers responded and made entry into the apartment and found a subject that had been shot,” Heinlein said. “Officers then pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.”

The victim in his mid-20s had been shot once in the torso, according to police. Additional information about the victim was not readily available, said Heinlein.

Police said two people possibly connected to the incident reportedly got into an older model, powder-blue minivan driven. The vehicle was seen leaving the area around the time of the shooting.

Crime scene investigators and patrol teams canvassed the area today looking for leads and interviewing witnesses.

“They are also looking for any potential video surveillance they can collect,” said Heinlein. “At this point as far as suspects go, we believe the victim knew who the suspect was.”

Today’s incident is the third Natomas-area shooting within two weeks.

On Sept. 28 a 53-year-old man was shot to death in what investigators believe was a drug-related incident at about 8:34 p.m. in the Natomas Marketplace parking lot on Truxel Road.  A second incident occurred shortly after midnight on Oct. 2 when police discovered a man with gunshot wounds on the 4500 block of Natomas Central Drive.

The Sacramento Police Department urges anyone with information about this homicide to contact Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES). Enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
