More than 40 Jesuit High School students spent their Friday afternoon delivering about 50,000 pounds of food to the Stanford Settlement Neighborhood Center in South Natomas.
Each year, students from Jesuit High School hold an annual food drive to benefit “Operation Cratchit,” Stanford Settlement’s annual Christmas basket program.
The student body collected non-perishable food items and delivered these donations in a semi-truck on Friday. Jesuit students spent nearly three hours unloading the semi-truck.
The food will be sorted over the weekend and distributed to families who signed up starting on Tuesday.
For 51 years, Stanford Settlement has been assisting individuals, families, and the elderly with additional resources during the holiday season.
Last year, Stanford Settlement provided holiday assistance to more than 600 households, reaching almost 2,500 people, with over half of those being children.
As the needs in the community continue to increase, Stanford Settlement said that help from the larger community is needed now more than ever.
Donation needs include: non-perishable food items, new unwrapped toys for children 15 and under, new Christmas wrapping paper, and cash contributions. Items are still being at the agency located at 450 West El Camino Avenue.
