Two women who were injured in a hit-and-run accident while biking in Natomas are hopeful that a witness’s dashcam videos will help identify the driver of the vehicle which fled the scene.
The family of one of the victim’s is offering a $1,000 award for tips that result in identifying the driver and an arrest.
The accident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. on Monday, April 27 as Tia Vang and Sheng Lo were riding westbound on Elkhorn Boulevard with their husbands. The two women were hit from behind near where Elkhorn Boulevard intersects with Natomas Boulevard.
Dashcam videos show a silver Toyota truck with a lumber rack headed westbound on Elkhorn Boulevard toward Interstate 5/Highway 99 shortly after the accident. According to Vang, the accident report identifies this vehicle as the one that hit her and Lo. She hopes releasing the video will help identify the person who was driving the vehicle at the time.
The women, who are experienced cyclists, were riding single file in the bike lane when they were struck from behind. Both were knocked off their bicycles as a result of the impact and taken by ambulance to the UC Davis Medical Center.
Vang was the first to be hit and suffered a broken arm, broken wrist and fingers. She also sustained injuries to her rib cage, lungs, pelvis and spine. Vang has undergone one surgery and is scheduled to have another in June. She currently is unable to walk and is recovering from her injuries in a rehabilitation facility.
“There are so many broken parts in my body,” Vang said. “I am so thankful for the helmet.”
Lo suffered a laceration to her head, cuts and bruises. She is still recovering from her injuries.
A GoFundMe campaign started by Vang’s sister has raised more than $9,000.
