One person has died and another was injured as the result of a crash Wednesday morning just north of Natomas.
At about 7:20 a.m. on July 1, the California Highway Patrol received a report of a collision involving an SUV and a sedan on Elkhorn Boulevard, west of Highway 99.
The Sacramento City Fire Department arrived on scene shortly after the collision. A 33-year old Elk Grove man driving the sedan succumbed to injuries as a result of the collission and was declared deceased on the scene at 7:36 a.m. The 47-year old Sacramento woman driving the SUV suffered minor injuries.
The collission temporarily closed both directions of Elkhorn Boulevard while first responders aided the victims and CHP investigated the scene.
When CHP officers arrived to the scene they learned that Toyota 4-Runner SUV was traveling in the eastbound lane of Elkhorn Boulevard and the Volvo S60 sedan was in the westbound lane of traffic. For reasons still under investigation, the sedan traveled into the eastbound lane of traffic and collided with the SUV.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation at this time.
Anyone who may have witnessed this collision or who can provide any additional information regarding this collision should call Officer A.J. McTaggart at the North Sacramento Area CHP office at (916) 348-2300 by cell phone at (916)798-0975.
