The parents of a boy with cerebral palsy is reaching out to the public to find a walker accidentally left in a Natomas-area parking lot during Tuesday’s thunderstorm.
The 11-year-old’s family, of Hughson, Calif., was headed north when they stopped in Natomas to grab a quick bite at the In-N-Out Burger located at Del Paso Road and East Commerce Way.
After eating lunch, the boy was using his walker to get into the family car when his path became blocked by a hedge. His father helped him into the car as the rest of the family scrambled to get out of the rain. Both parents thought the other had put the walker inside the vehicle and did not realize it had been left behind until they reached the camp near Chico.
The family posted information on the lost walker yesterday morning on Craigslist. Today they turned to the Sacramento Police Department for help. A police trainee went to the site to look for the walker, but could not find it.
The royal blue Nurmi Neo walker is manufactured by Otto Bock, has a black cushioned flip seat, and is valued at about $1,000. The boy’s mother, Susan, told The Natomas Buzz he is unable to walk safely without the walker and his participation at camp has been limited as a result.
“Instead of playing baseball with the other kids, he’s sitting playing umpire,” she said. “He’s tried using walking sticks, but he’s pretty sore, pretty tired.”
