The legacy of a popular football coach lives on through an impressive scholarship fund established in his memory.
The Natomas Unified school board tonight will accept a $250 donation from Paul Ramirez through the PG & E Corp. Foundation donated to the Salvador Heredia Arriaga Memorial Football Scholarship Fund which now totals more than $14,000.

Heredia Arriaga was slain in March 2010 when he interrupted a drug-related, home-invasion robbery in South Natomas. Heredia Arriaga, son of longtime Natomas school board member Sue Heredia, worked as a substitute teacher and football coach at Natomas High School while attending law school. Several suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime.

Natomas High School plans to present $1,000 scholarships on behalf of the Sal Heredia Arriaga Memorial Football Scholarship Fund at an awards ceremony set for tomorrow.
