The Natomas Unified School District today announced it has reached a tentative agreement with the California School Employees Association as the result of a negotiation session held on Jan. 24.
According to a press release issued this afternoon by the school district, the contract agreement will create 7.9 percent in budget savings for the 2011-12 school year. How these savings would be obtained were not detailed in the brief press release.
The classified union’s members – which include employees such as school secretaries, custodians and bus drivers – must vote to approve the tentative agreement. A vote has not yet been scheduled, union officials said Tuesday night.
The Natomas Teachers’ Association last week ratified a contract agreement that will save the district money by way of teacher layoffs, increases class sizes and furlough days. That contract is scheduled for review by the Natomas school board at its meeting in February.
School district officials sought 7.9 percent in concessions from all employee groups to balance its budget and remedy a projected cash-flow shortage for the 2011-12 school year. Sources tell THE NATOMAS BUZZ negotiations likely will resume in February for additional concessions as a back-up plan in the event California voters do not approve tax hikes to help fund public education.
