At Witter Ranch Elementary School Wednesday, fourth-grade teacher Nicole Swonger and her class received a special delivery of much-needed classroom supplies.
The supplies were provided through Chevron’s Fuel Your School program, a partnership between Chevron and DonorsChoose.org. This is the third year Chevron’s Fuel Your School has helped Sacramento-area teachers and students get the supplies they need for students to learn, explore and get excited about school.
The Fuel Your School program provides an easy way for anyone to support K-12 public schools in Sacramento County. During the month of October, when drivers pump eight or more gallons at a participating Chevron or Texaco stations, Chevron will donate $1 – up to $500,000 – to help support public education projects in Sacramento County.
Swonger submitted a project request through DonorsChoose.org, requesting dissectible owl pellets, solar energy models and simple machines to broaden her students’ access to hands-on education in science and engineering. On Wednesday, Oct. 8 Natomas Unified School District superintendent Chris Evans was on hand with Swonger and her students when the supplies were delivered by Michael Rubio, manager of California government affairs for Chevron.
According to Swonger, this marks the third project that she had funded with the help of the program. Last year, Chevron helped fund projects in 139 public schools in Sacramento County.
