The sign on the building may still read Gold’s Gym, but gradual changes inside the 40,000-square foot facility tell a different story.
New owners took the helm of the Natomas gym, located at 1900 Del Paso Road, this past summer. Effective Oct. 15 it started operating as a Max Fitness franchise.
Rumors Gold’s Gym closed and a postcard in Natomas mailboxes this week had some long-time members and area residents confused about its status.
“While we were gone (on vacation) we got a flyer for a gym by another name at the same location,” said Sandy Brooks, a Gold’s Gym member since 2008. “We knew there were new owners, but there was never any official notification.”
Gold’s Gym in Natomas, opened in 2002, filed for Chapter 11 protection under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in May 2011. The Gold’s Gym in Elk Grove, owned by the same group of investors, closed earlier this year.
Max Fitness is a growing fitness chain with more than a dozen locations in Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. The Natomas location is the first in California and in the process of undergoing several aesthetic changes as it transitions from Gold’s Gym to Max Fitness.
Regular gym goers will note painting, a new pro-shop, new equipment, new classes, and even some new staff members.
