Sacramento Police have arrested 52-year-old Fredrick Tatum in connection with the death of a woman earlier this week in a hotel room on Northgate Boulevard.
At about 12:36 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8 the police received a report of a possible deceased person in a third floor hotel room on the 3700 block of Northgate Boulevard.
The Sacramento Fire Department responded with officers where they discovered the woman and pronounced her dead at the scene. The woman has been identified as April Fowler, 42.
A caregiver for Tatum became suspicious during a brief visit with the suspect at the door of the hotel room and called police to request a welfare check for Fowler.
Tatum was inside the room when officers arrived and immediately detained. Tatum was taken to police headquarters for questioning and booked into the Sacramento County Jail for failing to register as a sex offender.
Detectives continued to work on the case awaiting results from the coroner’s report. Police said that Tatum, a friend of Fowler’s, had physically assaulted her causing the injuries which resulted in her death.
Today, April 10, Tatum was also charged with murder by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.
