A man has been arrested in connection with a fire Saturday near a school in Natomas.

At about 10:30 a.m. on May 7, Sacramento Fire crews responded to a report of a vegetation fire along the bike trail near Jefferson School, which is located at 2001 Pebblewood Drive.

“A maintenance worker at the school witnessed a man lighting the fire,” fire spokesperson Capt. Keith Wade said. “That maintenance worker extinguished the fire with a dry cam extinguisher and also took photos of the suspect.”

A Sacramento Fire Department investigator responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and located the suspect not far from the scene, Wade said.

“That person was interviewed and subsequently arrested and charged with arson of land,” said Wade, who described the suspect as a man in his 30s.

The spot fire was small — measuring 2 feet by 2 feet in size. No injuries were reported.

Two small vegetation fires near Las Palmas Elementary school the same day were not related, Wade said.
