Supportive Housing Project Breaks Ground

Officials broke ground today on an affordable housing project in south Natomas which will also provide on-site wraparound services for people experiencing homelessness.

The multi-family, two-story housing project is a joint venture between Excelerate Housing Group and Hope Cooperative. It is located at 2314 Northview Drive and will be comprised 66 studio units and one two-bedroom unit as well as community spaces and offices.

The units will be 100% affordable, permanent supportive housing.

“Northview Pointe will be much more than just a roof over the heads of those who are experiencing homelessness,” District 3 city Councilmember Karina Talamantes said. “It will offer a full array of wraparound services to ensure long-term housing stability.”

Talamantes was joined at the groundbreaking ceremony by Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, Excelerate Housing Group president and CEO Dana Trujillo, Hope Cooperative CEO Erin Johansen, Sacramento Housing & Redevelopment Agency executive director La Shelle Dozier and HUD’s Northern Field Office Director Ed Cabrera.

Steinberg thanked those working on the project and the speed at which it is moving forward.

“Homelessness need not be hopelessness,” Steinberg said. “Projects like Northview Pointe show that nobody is forgotten. Everyone matters.”

The 2022 Point in Time Count found more than 9,000 people were unhoused in Sacramento. Of those, 57% of adults had at least one disabling condition and 43% were chronically homeless.

Officials today said the Northview Pointe represents a strategy to partner services and housing experts to accelerate building affordable housing and delivering services.

As planned, Northview Pointe will offer an array of wraparound services for the residents meant to ensure housing stability for the long term. Services will be paid for through the HUD Continuum of Care and through California’s CalAIM program and will be provided by Hope Cooperative. The Sacramento Housing & Redevelopment Agency will also provide 20-year housing certificates for residents.

Excelerate Housing Group is a real estate development company focused on partnering with local nonprofits and public agencies to expand housing opportunities for low income families, seniors, moderate income households, and people experiencing homelessness.

Hope Cooperative uses an integrated, person-centered and individualized approach to provide wraparound services meant to help people experiencing homelessness who also have other challenges including mental illness, substance use disorders and chronic health conditions.

Guests at the groundbreaking were invited to write “Notes of Hope” which will be displayed as permanent messages of inspiration and good wishes to the future residents.
