The Divine Mercy Catholic Church will break ground this weekend on a new parish with a mass presided by Bishop William Weigand.
Mass is set for 8:30 a.m. Sunday, July 13 at site of the future church, in the field located on the corner of Club Center and Banfield drives, across the street from The Club at Natomas Park. The groundbreaking is scheduled for 9:45 a.m.
The Sacramento Planning Commission approved plans for phase one of the Divine Mercy construction on June 26th. Phase one — or what parishioners are calling the “First Church” — will initially serve as the parish’s church building. In the long term, plans are for the building to be used for school and other uses.
“With everything going on here in North Natomas, it is nice to see something that will have a positive impact on a community,” says parishioner Rich Hack. “Divine Mercy is proud to be the first church to actually build a church in North Natomas.”
This is a small miracle. A CHURCH building in N Natomas! Who would have thunk? We thought there was a city ordinance or something saying church in N Natomas could only be held in gymnasiums and movie theaters.
We currently drive to the Cathedral downtown for mass because we prefer a church over a multi purpose room, so it will be very nice to have a church in our own neighborhood.
The only downside is the parking nightmare. Driving to the Club this morning the parking lot was full and vehicles were parked on both sides of the street on Banfield. Trixie
How in the world would it be a parking nightmare? The church is currently held at a middle school and the parking there is substantial to accommodate their churchgoers. The only reason why it was crowded was because they canceled all the Sunday masses and combined it into one. Currently, there are two mass times on Sunday, so parking isn’t a big thing.
