When Vicky Julio called to schedule a regular checkup with her doctor at the Sutter Medical Plaza in Natomas, she was surprised to learn the office was closed and her doctor moved to another facility.

Sutter officials determined the building unsafe for patients and shuttered the office at 2210 Del Paso Road on June 25.

We decided on Monday to close and moved (doctors and staff) on Monday,” said Nancy Turner, a spokesperson for Sutter Medical Foundation. “It didn’t make sense to keep operating there when the building clearly had some issues.”

According to Turner, Sutter workers at the Natomas care center first noticed problems with the building on June 20. Issues with falling tiles and new cracks appearing in some walls, she said, worsened over the weekend of June 23-24.

“The safety of our patients and staff is a high priority at Sutter Medical Foundation,” Turner said of the abrupt closure.

Sutter has leased 6,000 square feet of a building located in the Centerpointe at Natomas Crossing business complex for eight years. The Natomas care center is a family practice serving 7,600 patients and laboratory services are also offered at the location.

The seven physicians and 16 employees who normally work at the Del Paso Road practice were relocated to various sites in the Sacramento area while Sutter sets up a new, temporary office in Natomas.

Turner said letters are going out to Sutter patients this week detailing plans to reopen at 1014 North Market Boulevard on Monday, July 23. (Click here for a map.)

Physicians will continue to see patients and lab services will be offered at the temporary location while repairs are made to the Del Paso Road building. Turner said the work is expected to take several months.

“Repairs are being made by our landlord, and we plan to return to that location when repairs are completed,” Turner said.

Neither property manager Wakefield & Cushman representatives, nor the owners of Centerpointe at Natomas Crossing wanted to be interviewed for this article, but one longtime tenant told THE NATOMAS BUZZ the owners have always been quick to make any needed repairs.

Said the tenant, “The owner has been very responsive.”
