The Sacramento Police Department has stepped up its presence in Natomas in response to a series of high-profile robberies last week. Click here for details.
Cameras, like these on the southwest corner of Del Paso Road and Natomas Boulevard/Truxel Road and an area shopping center, are part of those measures.
North-area police Capt. James Maccoun has urged Natomas residents to report suspicious people and vehicles near businesses or homes to the Sacramento Police Department, adding that criminals usually have a getaway car parked nearby.
Call 9-1-1 if a crime is taking place. Other reports can be directed to the Sacramento Police Department’s non-emergency number at (916) 264-5471.
The problem is they leave the cameras up for a couple weeks… the criminals stay away (or avoid the cameras)… then they take them down and the criminals come back. It’s not like these cameras are covert in any way. They stick out like a sore thumb. I don’t really understand the point unless they leave them there all the time. But then all the privacy freaks pitch a fit. So wouldn’t it be better to just not spend millions of dollars purchasing, maintaining and deploying these things?
