Two Natomas-area campuses have been recognized nationally in the U.S. News Best High Schools Rankings released yesterday.
Natomas Pacific Pathways High School received a silver medal award, ranking No. 148 out of 1,799 public high schools in California and No. 761 out of more than 21,000 schools nationwide.
“Not bad after just 6 years,” Principal Tom Rutten said.
NP3 was also listed No. 93 among the nation’s public charter high schools.
U.S. News with the American Institutes for Research looked at school scores for overall student performance on state-mandated assessments along with how effectively schools educated their black, Hispanic and economically disadvantaged students. Scores on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams were also used to evaluate which schools better prepare their students for college-level work.
The 2013 Best High Schools rankings reflect data collected from more than 21,000 public high schools from 49 states and the District of Columbia. According to U.S. News, the state of Nebraska did not report enough data to be included in the rankings.
Rankings released yesterday are based on data from 2011-12 school year, Rutten said.
California had the highest number of recognized schools, including NP3 and Natomas Charter High School which was awarded a bronze medal by U.S. News.
“We are always pleased to see hard work of our of our teachers, staff and students recognized,” said Ting Sun, Natomas Charter School co-founder/executive director.
The Natomas Unified School District’s other three public high schools – Inderkum, Natomas High and Discovery High – were unranked.
