Students from Natomas-based Zapata’s Martial Arts competed over the weekend at Sr. Master Jamie’s Regional Championship in Rocklin.
The American Taekwondo Association, or ATA, tournament took place on Saturday, Nov. 19 at William Jessup University and featured special guests Chief Master M.K. Lee and Chief Master Kang.
Individuals of all ages and abilities from the Sacramento area, Central Valley, San Francisco Bay Area and beyond competed in forms, weapons, sparring, and extreme competition at the tournament.
Students from Zapata’s Martial Arts competed and cheered for their fellow competitors. School owner and head instructor, Joe Zapata, also got into the competitive spirit.
Saturday’s event was also the first in an effort to qualify to bring two tournaments to the region which would allow local competitors to earn more points in competitions.
Individuals at Saturday’s event picked up a “California Destination A 2012” game boards and will receive a sticker upon competing at tournaments on Feb. 4 and April 28, respectively. Both are scheduled to take place at William Jessup University.
Zapata’s Martial Arts has been serving the Natomas area for over 11 years. It is located in the Stone Creek Shopping Center.
