A parolee was returned to custody last night after he firebombed an occupied residence in Rio Linda.

Billie Cooper, 50, is being held without bail and faces multiple charges in connection with the incident.

At approximately 9 p.m. yesterday, Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 1000 block of Hayer Circle. Information suggested that the suspect, Cooper, was on his way to the location with the intent of burning down the residence. While en route to the scene, deputies received an updated call that an explosive device was thrown through a window and into the home. Several adults and a three year-old child were inside at the time, and a fire immediately began inside the home.

Fire personnel were dispatched to the scene, and deputies responded to the area to search for Cooper, who had reportedly fled either on foot or bicycle. The occupants of the home were able to escape the residence, and the fire was contained soon thereafter. At approximately 9:20 p.m., deputies located Cooper hiding in nearby Dry Creek and took him into custody.

Cooper is being held on charges including multiple counts of attempted murder, arson, possession and ignition of a destructive device, child endangerment, threats to commit a crime resulting in great bodily injury, and a violation of parole.
